The first movement, “At Play,” depicts children in a playground. The humorous and sarcastic “Interrupted Lament” starts with a mocking, pseudo lament that is indeed interrupted by a lively section that seems almost on the verge of veering out of control before it slows down and the mock-lament returns. The third movement, “Roundabout,” suggests a traffic roundabout with vehicles coming and going, horns honking, and so on.
