The Horseman (2019) 3’
Walter de la Mare’s poem portrays the “wild ride” of a mysterious, perhaps demonic, horse and rider as they gallop fast enough to match the progress of the sun across the sky! Also portrayed is the peoples’ awed, fearful reaction to this “wild and wicked sight.” The saxophone adds bite and urgency to this piece, which is the first of a set of three. #2 is “Will Ever the Wanderer Come?”; #3 is “Nobody Knows What the Wind Is.”
