Silent Woods by Antonin Dvořák (2019) 7’
Antonín Dvořák’s lovely, lyrical Silent Woods began as one movement of From the Bohemian Forest, Op. 68, for piano duet. In 1891 Dvořák made a cello/piano arrangement of Silent Woods for a cellist friend. The piece became so popular that in 1893 Dvořák arranged it for cello and small orchestra (flute, 2 clarinets, 2 bassoons, French horn, strings). This string orchestra arrangement of Silent Woods was commissioned by Barbara Day Turner for the San Jose Chamber Orchestra and was premiered with soloist Michelle Kwon.
