My Mind to Me a Kingdom Is (2020) 4.5’

The poem “My Mind to Me a Kingdom Is” was written in the time of Shakespeare and Queen Elizabeth I by English poet Sir Edward Dyer (1543-1607), who had an eminent career as a diplomat for the Queen and was also a member of Parliament. My music reflects the poem’s mood of contentment, inner peace, and retreat from a turbulent and corrupt world. (We can infer from the poem that Dyer didn’t like the highly competitive, dangerous, and contentious life at court!)

SATBB unaccompanied, Soprano solo

A lyrical piece expressing the joys of peace and solitude.
