Invocation (2010) 4′
My inspiration for this sonorous piece was the many sustained, solemn, noble trombone passages from the standard orchestral literature that I’ve heard all my life: The “Tannhauser” overture, the impressive fanfares from “The Magic Flute,” the trombone solo in Mahler’s 3rd Symphony, and many, many more! Invocation is dedicated to Craig, my long-time trombonist friend.
