The church described in e.e. cummings’ mystical, Romantic poem is “far from the splendor and squalor of hurrying cities,” yet deeply connected with the cycles of nature and of human life. In my musical setting I highlight both the quiet mysticism and the passion of this lovely poem. This is a companion piece to “anyone lived in a pretty how town.”
