Psalm 113 is very powerful and very rich in musical possibilities. The first half of the psalm exuberantly praises the all-powerful God, who “sits enthroned on high.” In the second half, however, this almighty God “stoops to behold the heavens and the earth.” He manifests his power not by destroying His enemies, but by compassionately raising the weak and the poor out of the dust and by granting children to the woman who was previously childless.
